Reviews of CARA
CARA is 100% a better product than the Webtop & Firstdoc
Pros:
It is fast, ease of use and very good for Admin to troubleshoot and multitasking unlike the previous content management tools like Webtop,D2, Firstdoc.
Cons:
Need a good annotation service to be added to CARA.
Alternatives Considered:
Cara - Modern intuitive UI
Comments: The overall experience is great. Right from the product selection --> Communication --> config movement --> data transformation --> Testing --> Production go live. It was one of the best projects that I have ever worked with
Pros:
We have moved from FirstDoc to CARA almost 2.5 years back and the response was excellent. We were surprised by the extent of a positive reaction. Never seen such a turnaround in the user sentiments. CARA provides intuitive UI and good OOTB features which enables end-user to locate and work on their content pretty easily. It also provides highly configurable UI for the administrators/power users to deploy the new changes very easily and effectively. We are very pleased and thanks to Generis to successfully migrate and transform our system to the new heights
Cons:
Generis support can be better and they need to work on the documentation more effectively.
CARA in an highly diverse QM organisation
Pros:
Capability to generate language specific master data / taxonomies which helped the global organisation to stay in control of meta data systems while allowing local inits to adopt the taxonomies to their local needs and habbits. Very easy and fast way to hook in local adoptions/ configurations.
Cons:
Difficult to manage the local adoptions on a globa level due to missing functionality of managing code segments in central libraries and therby avoid duplication of customizations for local enteties.

Hi Stefan, Thank you for your review, it's great to hear that you enjoy the flexibility and functionality of CARA. CARA v5 has a built-in management of language aliases for all values. They are stored on objects and updated when dictionaries are updated; this allows full text searching / indexing in any language the customer wants. To find out more, please get in touch with us : [email protected]. Many thanks, The Generis Team.
Easy to use - intuitive Administration\Control Panel
Comments: We have a legacy home grown application that is over 20 years old and on old technology (Mainframe\COBOL\CICS). It is tricky to integrate it with newer technology and one unexpected consequence of this is that it is difficult to retain younger workers with the older technology applications. Area by area we have been moving them off of the old and onto the new and the user experience is far superior. Greater search capabilities and options to integrate with modern applications.
Pros:
I like how easy it is to get up and running. Within hours, we were able to install the product, connect to Documentum and have a basic working User Interface.
Cons:
It's a testament to the product that have to nit-pick to find anything. Exporting and importing the overall configuration is all or nothing so there is no way to make minor development changes without exporting\importing everything. We have a few configuration settings that are customized by environment (i.e. test\model\prod) that I have to change manually each time I import changes from Test to Model and Model to Prod. I would prefer more granular export\import capabilities when developing to only export\import the object I am changing. For instance, Dashboards and Custom Actions allow exactly the kind of capabilities that I prefer. That and the "cleaner look" lead me to using Dashboards much more frequently - almost exclusively. There are a few features in the more traditional Explorer UI that it would be nice to have in the Dashboard\Portal UI like drag and drop, etc.
CARA: great tool, not so good support
Comments: My overall experience is OK. I know CARA is a powerful tool but if one doesn't understand how to use it and configure it properly, how powerful it is doesn't matter. I just wish there was more "how-to" documentation and better tech support. This is the general consensus among my colleagues as well. Our team develops solutions for several other departments across the county. When they have an issue, we need to be able to resolve it quickly. Technical support overall is pretty much non-existent; everyone is nice but if there's no resolution then.... I was given an account to login to but man, most of the time it didn't work (I had reset my PW several times) and when I did get in, I wasn't able to find what I was looking for - I eventually gave up. First, there should be a knowledge base of problems and solutions, secondly there should be a way to open a trouble ticket which should be immediately assigned to a tech-support person that can work with you on resolving the issue. DOCUMENTATION!!! A COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING MANUAL FOR DEVELOPERS; one that is tightly coupled with the amazing online class we were offered a couple of years ago.
Pros:
I think CARA is a powerful tool. Integration with the Documentum platform and our existing business process was easy. The out-of-the-box functions are awesome; I especially love that you can customize to down to the level of an attribute. Finally, after having the product for a few years, we were offered an excellent on-line training (unfortunately at the time, I was developing in another tool... so I lost most of what was taught). Would be great if this training was recorded and saved to refer back to.
Cons:
1. One feature in particular is a dynamic quick search. HPI, another UI tool, has a feature that allows you to start typing in a search box and as you're typing, the results start to filter. The search goes across ALL columns (attributes) defined and it is invaluable. It adds a tremendous amount of flexibility and ease and greatly impacts productivity in a positive way. 2. CARA uses BRAVA! for document viewing but it doesn't offer much documentation on how to use it and use it effectively. I searched the internet and found something that helped me learn the tool but there seems to be a bug with it... there's no real tech support. 3. Why can't we customize the look and feel of the forms? That would be a nice feature so that more than one field could be placed on row.
New to Content Management? CARA makes it easy for you!
Comments:
I am a satisfied user of CARA
1.Easy to access via browser
2.Drag & Drop features
3.Easy movement of documents across folders
4.Highly configurable watermarks & overlays
5.Taxonomy, Category, Dashboard, Views & Capabilities - Very thoughtful features
Pros:
As an End User - Easy of use As an admin - Ease of configuration & customisation, Readily available upgrade packages
Cons:
There are certain product issues at times which CARA support is unable to help in troubleshooting as they would ask for a replication scenario but that isn't available always! Suggestion: Its an evolving product I understand & the venture with Box should be fruitful too. The suggestion that I have is, the partner companies should have easy access to rapid deploy packages. Quarterly meetings would also help build strong relationships with both clients & implementation partners.
CARA is an amazing office tool!!
Comments: Getting out of the paper world, greater organization and tools that help us prioritize with ease. It was easy in the paper world to lose track of things on occasion but with CARA that's no longer an issue.
Pros:
Its taken us from piles of paper on our desks to entirely electronic documents and provides a better, easily searchable file retention system. We can reference old documents as necessary with ease with its user friendly navigation. Its also great because we can partner with top notch CARA experts to customize options to help our specific office needs. They are always accommodating and ready to help.
Cons:
Sometimes its slow when searching but honestly its nothing that's a show stopper and could be because we haven't upgraded as of yet.
An Extremely Versatile Tool
Comments: We're using CARA for various use cases, including replacing a legacy reporting tool, minor workflow for several business lines, and basic search and view functions.
Pros:
Speed of new set ups and the versatility of the tool. We're still finding new ways to utilize it.
Cons:
Dashboard reports are lacking some features that we would like to see, but new ones are being added all the time.
CARA is the ECM real Face
Comments: Exceptional
Pros:
Ease of use, Ease of setup, Ease of deployment, Ease of Migration, Ease of configurations, Ease of Integration and Ease of dealing with the vendor.
Cons:
Documentation can be a little better, more details need to be included
A Just-Okay Program for Document Management and Sharing.
Comments: It is good for sharing documents for review and editing, if you have a lot of time to figure it out.
Pros:
I like that you can share documents with co-workers.
Cons:
It's not a very user-friendly program, and it's not very intuitive.
Pros and Cons of CARA
Comments: Good tool with rich UI but poor workflow of components
Pros:
Ease to use. UI is fabulous. Easy to customize and analyze the root cause.
Cons:
Need good knowledge on JavaScript, difficult to understand the flow of components.
Account Managers View on Cara
Pros:
Depth and breath of the system, good user interface
Cons:
Sometimes not focused enough, too many moduls
Good software/implementation partner
Pros:
software: High reliability and high quality Generis:Project management ability to implement EDMS system (CARA)
Cons:
Lack of consultants and engineers to deploy in Japan
Cara survey
Comments: Support was able to help me with issues pretty thoroughly.
Pros:
I like most about the Cara software its graphical interface.
Cons:
The procedures to upgrade when using documentum software
CARA vs Webtop
Pros:
I love the user interface interactions. I find more easier than Webtop and more effective. It is not complicated at all.
Cons:
I think in this aspect I can I did not find anything I don't like as I am a heavy user of Webtop and Cara is very good.

Hi Raul, Thank you for your review. We're very happy to hear that you enjoy using CARA. Many thanks, The Generis Team.
CARA : Easy to Use, Flexible, Cost Effective Tool for Regulatory Information Management
Comments: CARA is one of the best Regulatory Information Management Tool available in the market and I would Highly recommend it's use.
Pros:
I mainly use this software for implementing Regulatory Information Management for Life Sciences. It is very easy to use, User friendly, very flexible and customizable, Cost/Pricing is lower than other similar type of tools in the market like Veeva Vault RIM which has a higher License Cost and hence is not very good for smaller companies.
Cons:
It should incorporate more features and segregate them in different modules like Registrations, Applications etc.
Review from an irregular user
Pros:
It is very easy to learn how to use it and the videos received from the vendor although lengthy were useful
Cons:
There were some features like dragging and dropping that were not present at the time
